Keeping in Touch With Family After A Funeral

Funerals are always an unfortunate time for families; but they often offer an opportunity to reconnect with family members that have been out of contact for a while. Loss can bring families together, and it can be important to have loved ones you can talk to after losing someone close. After reconnecting with distant family members at a funeral, there are a number of ways you can work to keep in touch with them; to keep the family together.

Add Them on Facebook

Assuming your family members have a Facebook account, add them. Facebook is a great way to reconnect with distant relatives and stay in each other’s lives. Consider making a private group on Facebook for family posts, and include your relatives, distant or otherwise. It is a great way for everyone to stay connected, and share family photos, new and old.

Send A Card

It may seem a bit dated, but it is a really warm gesture to send a card for an anniversary or birthday today. It is a great way to show your loved one that they are in your thoughts. You can use social media like Facebook to know birthdays and anniversaries ahead of time as well.

Send Flowers

A bouquet, basket, or spray of flowers can be a great way to show that your loved ones are still in your thoughts. Flowers aren’t just for the funeral. They are to remind your family members that they are not alone, and that you are looking out for them in their time of grieving.

Plan Gatherings or Reunions

After reconnecting with loved ones, it can be nice to get together afterwards. Plan get-togethers or large family reunions. Reunions are a great way for families to bond, and for younger generations of your family to become closer. If everyone is spread out across many cities or states, you and other members of the family can take turns hosting and organizing the event.
