My condolences to the Pauline Family and Brother's Peter's family. Brother Peter was the vocation director when I entered the seminary with the Society, and I always enjoyed his presence and the times we got to talk and just be community. He encouraged me once to play my violin in mass at the chapel on Staten Island. Eternal Rest grant unto him, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen

I first met Brother Peter when I was stationed in Cincinnati, Ohio. At our invitation he came down to give a retreat to the Pauline laity who were just forming. It was a joyful occasion which Br. Peter said was uplifting and encouraging. From that time on I invited Brother Peter to all of these types of gatherings across the country - from Malibu, CA to New Jersey. He always brought positive energy and encouragement. His work as a vocationist for the Society of St Paul was challenging and Brother Peter was always up to whatever it took to invite others to the Pauline life.

Brother Pete was a kind and compassionate soul. He was a great conversationalist and when engaged in a conversation with him, Pete had the gift of always making you feel that you were the most important person in the room. It was an honor and a privilege having him in my life. He will be sadly missed, however, never ever be forgotten, because he will remain in our hearts and memories forever. Rest in peace dear Pete. God bless you. ❤ Love, Laura

Even though Pete was not a biological relative of mine, I felt as though he was an uncle to me!! Pete was kind, thoughtful, intelligent & "Full of Life"! I looked forward to chatting with him at parties and him being at my sons wedding! I miss him dearly but realize he is with God and is free from his incredible suffering! My Deepest condolences to Aunt Helen, Sean, Maur, Kay, Mike, and Eileen.

I've always felt like Brother Pete was a true big brother to me as a Sister of the Pauline Family. I've been in Staten Island since 2014 and every time we got together, Pete was always there with his infectious smile and latest joke. He always teased me about my family's one claim to fame of being related to MLB's Mark McGwire. A true brother with a deep Pauline spirit, Brother Pete, you will be greatly missed. Enjoy the Pauline Family corner of heaven, they'll be glad to have you!

So many memories from childhood when Pete, his Dad and my Uncle Charlie would visit. Then as an adult more wonderful memories of Br. Pete visiting, St. Patrick's Days. Such consolation to me when my brother Hugh died. The many books he sent me and then always checked to make sure I read them. He was such a gentle soul full of goodness. RIP

Brother Peter was truly a "brother in Christ" to all of us Pauline Sisters and Brothers. It was always a joy to meet him throughout the years at various book displays and at Staten Island or at the Holy Family meetings in Ohio. He radiated a genuine enthusiasm for the Gospel and a concern for people. May his memory as well as his intercession bring many more vocations to the Society of St. Paul and to all of the Pauline Family. Rest in the Peace of Jesus Master, Brother Peter.

Bro. Peter and I did many projects together while I was stationed in Staten Island between 2003-2008. We were a great team and planned the Beatification Mass of our Founder, Bl James Alberione, at St Patrick's Cathedral with over 600 members of the Pauline Family and friends present. We also did events for our 75th anniversaries of foundation. These are some of my best memories....but there are many....celebration Masses at the SSP, Halloween celebrations at our convent, picnics with the PDDMs, and numerous other celebrations that brought the Pauline Family together. That was Pete. He brought people together and I am so grateful for all the times, good laughs, passion for the mission, and memories I have of my dear brother in Christ.
Bro Peter, may you now enjoy that "Pauline Mansion" with all our brothers and sisters who have gone before us. Save me a spot, will you? And, please pray for us Paulines that we may always have that passion for proclaiming the Gospel in and through the media as you did!
Much love in Jesus Master,
Sr. Nancy Usselmann, FSP

My memories of Brother Peter go back to 1988 when he came to our community of Cincinnati, Ohio to lead the first Pauline Cooperator Retreat. He readily came though it was something new. His good humor and genuine presentations to the group were wonderful. He also said that his own vocation was strengthened by the response of the Pauline retreat goers. Later throughout the years Brother Peter was invited back to Cooperator retreats and conventions.. Another memorable one was in Malibu, CA. Each morning Father Jeffrey would great everyone with "another day in paradise." Brother Peter had gathered some interested young men to attend the retreat and inspired them with his own vocational response. The next event that I remember with joy was Brother Peter's prayer leadership at a Cooperator Convention in Princeton,New Jersey. He will be greatly missed! For me Brother Peter is a genuine Pauline who followed the Spirit's lead.

May the warmth and love of Christ that filled Bro. Peter as he "partnered for life" under the spirit and guidance of St. Paul; now shine in the Kingdom of God -- and bring forth the fruit of many vocations that for which he labored tirelessly.

"Pete was the finest of humankind with a large heart that reached out to others in love and care." This is the perfect description of Brother Peter. He was a true brother ready to give of himself, rolling up his sleeves when something needed to be done or a tense situation needed to be diffused. I will always treasure the vocation journey we went on with one of the Sister Disciples. Lots of laughs, and a hearty love for the Pauline Vocation. Thank you, Brother Peter!

To Helen and family: We are so very sorry for your profound loss. My whole family loved Brother Pete--his warmth, his wit, and his wisdom. He always had a ready smile! But what I will never forget is how Brother Pete made himself available to my brother, my sister, and me when our brother died under tragic circumstances. Brother Pete reached out to us as individuals--and not simply at the funeral but also long afterwards, offering consolation and hope at a time when we often felt deep despair. His friendship, spirituality, and care were such a gift to us. We will treasure the memory of him and send our deepest condolences to you.

Memories of Pete.
As Pete and I were growing up, we always had a running conversation about age—his birthday was September,1944 and mine was January 1945. I’d always say he was old and his return comment was—“your right behind me”
As we went through life, I was there for his entry to St.Pauls, his 2 years in Ohio before profession, his profession, 25th and 50th anniversary. When he was in Ohio for those 2 years, it was the first time Pete lived outside of Staten Island and Jersey City. No cell phones in those days so it was letters and cards. They were so funny—city boy meets country living.
We know how much Pete loved his Irish heritage. Marching with County Kerry in the St. Patricks Day parade on Fifth avenue. Irish music. Dance the Stack O Barley at weddings and parties. His trip to Ireland to visit his family home in Larauch. During the trip with his dad he also went to Allhies to visit the Harrington family home where his Dad spent a lot of his youth.
Pete was very family oriented. He was there for Harrington family events—weddings, funerals, family gathering and reunions.
His last trip to the farm was August,2018 for the Ritchey-Harrington family reunion. Great time was had by all with lots of stories, laughs and beers to go around.
As you know Pete was not a foodie. Basic—meat, potato, veggies but also Italian- spaghetti and pizza. The last few years we’d meet at the Red Dog in Convent Station for dinner. Pete knew how to get there since it was near St. Elizabeth’s College. His meal never varied—French Fries.

A few of my families favorite memories of Pete:
Pete joining our summer vacations at the beach in Assateague Island, Maryland. He loved walking the beach with me and my mom (we all would get incredibly sunburned given our shared “Irishness” and not having quite the right level of sunscreen available back in the 70’s!)
It always made us all feel particularly blessed because we had such a wonderful religious Brother in our family. My mom (Sheila) headed-up the guitar group at Christ the King Church in Manville, NJ and Pete always helped her with having access to the best “young Catholics” type of music for her group to play at the 10am Sunday mass.
I loved when I was able to sit around the kitchen table with the adults and listen to them tell stories of their time as kids growing up with Irish immigrant parents (their life sounded tough to me, but also full of love and laughs!).
We loved when Pete would sing and/or tell Irish stories and jokes with an incredible brogue! His sense of humor was simply the best!
He always had a positive and uplifting attitude.
When we would visit him as children the long hallway at Alba House was a must to run up and down only to be eventually get in trouble from mommy and daddy and we loved the huge kitchen!
When the pool was still at Alba House and there were so many wonderful brothers evenings would often end in song (Brother’s Gus, Gerard, Benny and Michael…who played guitar and organ/piano, were particular favorites, after Pete of course!)
New Year's eve at our house in Manville, when he dressed up as the New Year's baby: diaper, pacifier and all. So hysterical! When he would visit, we would play the organ and sing…particularly Irish songs.
My sister Donna often reached out to Pete and counted on him for spiritual advice as she raised my 2 sons.
My brothers appreciated how he made being a religious person so relaxed and human. He gave them an eight track tape of Brewer & Shipley’s “One Toke Over the Line” . They then shared with Pete and Gus a rather inappropriate Cheech & Chong skit re: the Pope and appreciated how they laughed along versus telling my mom that they shouldn’t be listening to such things.
At Scot’s wedding in Boston, his wife Patty’s Aunt just loved Pete and tried dancing with him at every turn (she kept hoping one day he would be single…lol)!
There are so many happy memories we all had with him, particularly when we were children and then again later in life as adults. We will dearly miss him.

Brother Pete was always so kind. Always a smile on his face, always positive. He would always ask are you ok? Do you need anything? Just the sweetest man. I stopped in to see him right before the virus, I just wanted to say hello and check in on him.. He was having breakfast, eating his hard boiled eggs, he was so happy to see me. Immediately he said what's the matter are you ok, I said Brother Pete I came to say hi and to see how you are doing lol. That was brother Pete though always thinking of others and always grateful for the smallest gesture.
Brother Pete you will be missed very much. I know you are watching over your Rolling Thunder Family. Forever in my heart.
