Obituary of James G. McGinn

James Gerard ("Scotty") McGinn, 74, of Freehold, passed away peacefully at home on 8/9/2020 surrounded by his family. Jim was the devoted son of the late Robert and Mary McGinn. He was also the beloved husband of Valrie (Grimmell) McGinn for 49 years; loving father of Dawn Mulcahy and Heather Peterson; father-in-law of Hugh Mulcahy and Walter Peterson; cherished Papa of Shannon, Brady, Walter III ("Trey"), and Mackenna; dear brother of Robert, Colette, and Peter; and fond cousin, Uncle and Great-Uncle of many. Mr. McGinn was born in Glasgow, Scotland and immigrated to Brooklyn, New York at the age of 10. He was given the nickname "Scotty", by which he became known by many for most of his life. Once married, he raised his family in Staten Island, NY, where he lived for 38 years before moving to Freehold, NJ. Jim served as a dental technician in the United States Air Force and then went on to graduate from NYC Technical College with an Associate degree in Telecommunications Technology. He also received an Associate in Arts from the Borough of Manhattan Community College. Jim was employed by Verizon for 38 years, then the TSA before he happily retired in 2010. A true family man, his family and friends were Jim's entire world. He was also passionate about the Glasgow Celtic Football Club. He co-founded the New York Celtic Supporters Club in the early 1980s and was the Club's proud president for many decades. Jim spent many Sundays at the Parlour in NYC supporting his team along with friends and family. Jim also loved the New York Rangers and Mets, and he never missed an episode of Jeopardy.
