Obituary of Rosa Cammalleri
Rosa Cammalleri (nee Bernardo), age 102, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on September 13, 2020. She was the beloved wife of the late Peter. She was the dear sister of the late Carmela Bernardo. She was loving mother of John Cammalleri and his late wife Barbara Cammalleri. She was dear grandmother of Peter Cammalleri, Linda Padula and her husband Frank, Susan Lyons and her husband Stephen. She was the devoted great grandmother of John Cammalleri, Craig Padula and his fiancée Rachael Ruiz, Gabriella McNamera and her husband Michael, Lauren Padula and Emma Padula.
Rosa was born in New York City. As a young girl she moved to Vittoria, Sicily. She was one of the first of her generation to become a teacher in Vittoria. She met and fell in love with her future husband, Peter; they were married in Italy in 1935. She came to America in 1945 and settled in New York City with her family. In 1950, she moved her family to Staten Island living in Grasmere. Rosa believed in hard work, she was a Seamstress for approximately 15 years. She was also a Cantor and Eucharistic Minister at Holy Rosary Church. She was a woman of tremendous faith and was dedicated to God and her family. Rosa was an amazing cook who enjoyed hosting many family gatherings. She loved crocheting and knitting, making blankets, table cloths and other items for all of her family. Rosa was the matriarch of her family for many years. Rosa will be remembered as a strong, loving and nurturing woman who always put others before herself.

Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home Inc., 2508 Victory Blvd. on Saturday, 9/19/2020, departing at 8:45 AM. Funeral Mass will be held in St. Teresa's R.C. Church at 9:30 AM. Interment will follow in Ocean View Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Friday, 9/18/2020, from 5:00 to 9:00 PM.
Due to the pandemic, all visitors to the funeral home and church must wear a mask, social distancing is strongly encouraged and the number of visitors allowed will be limited.
