Obituary of Mary Louise Veasey
Marylou Veasey, age 77, passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2020. She was the devoted daughter of the late Charles and Agnes McLaren. She was the beloved spouse of the late George F. Veasey, who passed away in 2001. She was the proud mother of Michael, George, Mark, Michelle, Patrick, and Sam, and the precious grandmother of Christopher, Danielle, Matthew, Deanna, Patrick, Joseph, Samantha, Daisy, Kaitlyn, and Juniper. She was also beloved by her son-in-law Joseph as well as her daughters-in-laws Teri and Laura. There are also countless others that would claim kinship to MaryLou: She was a mother to all that knew her!
Marylou was born and raised on 35th street near 4th avenue in Brooklyn, NY, where she was a proud graduate of Our Lady of Perpetual Help High School. Her childhood home included her brother William of Douglaston, Queens, as well as dozens of cousins who all grew up together. She met George, the love of her life, on a blind date in 1959. They married in June of 1963 and enjoyed 38 wonderful years together. They moved to Staten Island in 1968 where they raised their family. While MaryLou only bore 5 children, there were countless others that called her "Mom". Along with her husband, MaryLou always opened her home to anyone that needed a loving place to stay.
She worked for the New York Police Department as School Crossing Guard for 19 years. She was stationed at P.S. 54, where she also served on the PTA, including a term as President. In the early eighties, she transitioned to a career in Real Estate where her passion was getting mortgages to help people become homeowners for the first time. MaryLou was a longtime member of the Holy Family Parish Holy Rosary Altar Society. She loved theater, especially stage musicals, and in her forties she finally found herself on local stages signing and dancing her heart out with the Holy Family Parish Players and Sea View Playwrights. She maintained that passion for performing as part of the Musical Chairs Chamber Ensemble Roaring Chorus, which featured performances at Staten Island Yankees games. More than anything, MaryLou enjoyed escaping to her trailer at Trails End in Shohola, Pennsylvania with her husband and grandchildren.
Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home Inc., 2508 Victory Blvd. on Friday, September 25, departing at 10:00 AM. There will be a mass at Holy Family Parish on Watchogue Road, followed by a brief graveside service at Resurrection Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM and Thursday, September 24, 2020 from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
Due to the Coronavirus all visitors are required to wear masks, social distancing is encouraged and number of guests in the room at one time is limited.
