Obituary of Genevieve Romano
Genevieve Romano, 87, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2020.
She was the beloved wife of the late James (2018); loving mother of Susan Santiago, Ellen D'Ambrosi, Paula McAvoy and Janet Romano; cherished grandmother of Kate McAvoy, Valerie Mulligan, Michael D'Ambrosi, Kevin McAvoy, Matthew D'Ambrosi, Alethea Jadick and James Jadick; and the great-grandmother of LilianaD'Ambrosi. She was loved by her sons-in-law Ralph Santiago (2019), Ronny D'Ambrosi, John McAvoy (2001) and Ted Jadick. She is also survived by her brother Arvid Abrams, sisterVirginia Dillon, brother-in-law Ray Dillon and was preceded in death by her brother Carl Abrams.
Genevieve was born and raised on Staten Island, graduating from New Dorp High School. She was a devoted mother to her four daughters, and later cherished the time spent with her grandchildren. Genevievewas looking forward to meeting her great-grandchildren. She worked many years for the Board of Education in Staten Island and Brooklyn as a school aid and school secretary.
Genevieve loved reading British mysteries, doing word puzzles and travel. She wasan astute collector of antique glass. Genevieve and Jim spent many happy summers at their home on Kinderhook Lake in Columbia County, NY, enjoying family visits, country rambles, antiquing and garage sales.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, September 25 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Matthew Funeral Home, 2508 Victory Blvd. Funeral will be from Matthew's at 9:30 am on Saturday.
