Obituary of Hector Jesus Bustamante

Hector Bustamante was born on June 15, 1964 in Comas, Lima, Peru, to Policarpo Bustamante and Leonor Espinoza. He was baptized at Señor de los Milagros Parish in Comas, Peru, the same year. Hector was the devoted uncle of Leonor Romero, Laura Thurber, David Jr. Bustamante and Brian Bustamante. In 1990, Hector immigrated to the United States to join their older siblings who did so before him. He lived in Staten Island together with his family for 30 years. He was the loving brother of Maria, Oscar, David, Mabel and Sergio Bustamante. Hector was a very humble man and always made jokes. He liked to discuss about politics even though he had mild mental retardation. He could not complete his elementary school in Peru but that did not prevent him to know and be aware of everything around him. He was always very enjoyable to listen to. Hector was very loving uncle who helped in the household chores and the raising of his nieces and nephews. He was characterized by having a big heart and being very humble and funny. Hector contributed greatly for the progress of his family by working for several years in different types of jobs. There was one particularly to remember, it was in a car wash where he made good tips and everybody loved him because he had a good sense of humor. Everything was great until Hector got sick of liver cirrhosis and got a surgery in February of 2020. He was recovering until he got sick of COVID 19 in April and thanks God he overcame the illness but unfortunately it left the effects that damaged his liver deeply. He was put on a liver transplant list in September but his health got seriously complicated. Hector suffered a lot for several weeks and wanted to depart himself to reunite together with mom Leonor and brother David in heaven. He called all the family to talk for the last time and express his last wishes. He felt sorry that he could not make it to know his niece Leonor's baby expected to be born in January of next year. Two of Hector's last wishes were, the first one, not to cry at his funerals because he was going to go to a better place and reunite with his loved ones there and, the second one, not to forget his first year commemoration with a big Mass and a big dinner at home afterwards. When he finished talking with his family the priest came in to give him the last rites and Hector's last words were "I am ready." Hector passed away on October 7, 2020 at the age of 56. A very loved man was lost and our hearts got broken. Hector was a parishioner of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. Funeral arrangements, handled by Matthew's Funeral Home, took place on October 11th and 12th of this year as well as the burial ceremony on the 13th at Moravian Cemetery with a massive attendance. This extraordinary man left us his legacy of love, simplicity and humbleness. Gone too soon but he always gave love and will be forever missed. Rest in peace beloved Hector. Fue bautizado en la Parroquia Señor de los Milagros en Comas, Perú, el mismo año. Héctor fue el devoto tío de Leonor Romero, Laura Thurber, David Jr. Bustamante y Brian Bustamante. En 1990, Héctor emigró a los Estados Unidos para unirse a sus hermanos mayores que lo hicieron antes que él. Vivió en Staten Island junto con su familia durante 30 años. Fue el cariñoso hermano de María, Oscar, David, Mabel y Sergio Bustamante. Héctor era un hombre muy humilde y siempre hacía bromas. Le gustaba hablar de política a pesar de que tenía un leve retraso mental. No pudo completar su escuela primaria en Perú pero eso no le impidió conocer y estar pendiente de todo lo que le rodeaba. Era muy agradable escucharlo siempre. Héctor era un tío muy cariñoso que ayudaba en las tareas del hogar y en la crianza de sus sobrinos. Se caracterizó por tener un gran corazón y ser muy humilde y divertido. Héctor contribuyó enormemente al progreso de su familia al trabajar durante varios años en diferentes tipos de trabajos. Había uno particularmente para recordar, fue en un lavacarros donde hizo buenas propinas y todos lo querían porque tenía un buen sentido del humor. Todo iba bien hasta que Héctor se enfermó de cirrosis hepática y se sometió a una cirugía en febrero del 2020. Se estaba recuperando hasta que se enfermó de COVID 19 en abril y gracias a Dios superó la enfermedad, pero lamentablemente éste dejó los efectos que dañaron profundamente su hígado. Fue puesto en una lista de espera de trasplante de hígado en septiembre, pero su salud se complicó seriamente. Héctor sufrió mucho durante varias semanas y quiso partir él mismo para reunirse con su mamá Leonor y su hermano David en el cielo. Llamó a toda la familia para hablar por última vez y expresar sus últimos deseos. Lamentó no poder llegar a conocer al bebé de su sobrina Leonor que está por nacer en enero del próximo año. Dos de los últimos deseos de Héctor fueron, el primero, no llorar en sus funerales porque iba a ir a un lugar mejor y reunirse con sus seres queridos allí y, el otro, no olvidar la conmemoración de su primer año con una gran misa y una gran cena en casa después. Cuando terminó de hablar con su familia, el sacerdote entró para darle los santos óleos y las últimas palabras de Héctor fueron "Estoy listo". Falleció el 7 de octubre de 2020 a la edad de 56 años. Un hombre muy querido se fue y nuestros corazones se rompieron. Héctor era feligrés de la Iglesia Nuestra Señora del Buen Consejo. Los arreglos de los funerales, a cargo de Matthew's Funeral Home, se llevaron a cabo el 11 y 12 de octubre de este año, así como la ceremonia de entierro el 13 en el Moravian Cemetery con una asistencia masiva. Este hombre excepcional nos dejó su legado de amor, sencillez y humildad. Se fue tan temprano pero siempre dio amor y siempre lo extrañaremos. Descansa en paz querido Héctor.
