Obituary of Leonard Scaparrotti
Leonard Scaparrotti, age 79, passed away on November 16, 2020. He was the beloved husband of Pietrina (nee Landi) for 56 years. He was the loving father of Linda DeLuca and Michael Scaparrotti and his wife Tina. He was the cherished grandpa of Joseph Roselle, Theresa Fertitta, Michael Scaparrotti Jr., Kathy Fertitta, Isabella Fertitta, Christina Scaparrotti and Maria Scaparrotti. He was the dear great grandpa of William Schweer.
Leonard was born and raised in Staten Island. He was a very athletic child. Growing up he enjoyed playing baseball and basketball. He attended and graduated from Port Richmond High School. He served 6 years in the United States Army Reserves. After he was honorably discharged he went on to work at Supermarkets General (Pathmark) and later became a Supervisor while working there. Lenny was also a union delegate for Local 1500. He met his future wife, Pietrina in 1963 and they were married in 1964. They were blessed with two wonderful children, Linda and Michael. After retiring, Lenny and his wife enjoyed vacationing in Florida and spending summers in Manahawakin, NJ with their family. Leonard was very involved with many local organizations on Staten Island. He was a member of Gold Star Post 1365. He was the President of the Staten Island Softball Old Timers. He was a member of the Granite A.C. and he was also a member of the Staten Island Baseball Old Timers. Lenny was avid sports fan, who loved the New York Yankees, Villanova College Basketball and watching tennis. Lenny will be remembered as a fun loving man who loved being around family and friends creating memories and sharing special moments together. Above all he was a proud grandfather that supported and encouraged them in everything they did. He will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure to know him.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Wounded Warrior Project.
Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home Inc., 2508 Victory Blvd. on Thursday, 11/19/2020 departing at 10:15 AM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Michael's R.C. Church at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Wednesday, 11/18/2020, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
Due to the pandemic, all visitors must wear masks, and the number of visitors allowed into the funeral home will be limited by capacity.
