Obituary of Agnes Cammaroto
Agnes Cammaroto passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, January 18, surrounded by her family. She was 97 years old. Agnes was a proud and devoted mother to her three children, Frank, Gerilyn and Anthony. She was also an adored mother-in-law to Robyn and Lisa, and a loving Nana to Christina and her husband, Matthew Palcic, as well as Elaina, Alexa, Joseph and Danielle Cammaroto. She was predeceased by her loving husband Jerry, and two siblings, James and Peter Russo. Agnes was born on June 21, 1923, and was a lifelong resident of Staten Island. She lived in Mariners Harbor for most of her life before moving to Westerleigh in 1996.
Agnes' devotions in life were God, family and cooking. She was a devout Catholic, and a dedicated parishioner and volunteer at St. Michael's Church for more than 70 years. She loved singing in the choir, teaching religious instruction classes and helping out at church auctions and functions. She especially loved to sing hymns, both in and out of church. No matter what chore or activity she was doing, it was always done while singing and praising God.
As a mom, she was larger than life and a role model for treating people with love and respect. She also was devoted to her grandchildren, whom she adored, teaching them family traditions like singing Italian songs and baking treats.
Agnes graced so many with her love, kindness, generosity and hospitality. Her welcoming personality touched so many lives, and it never took long for friends to be considered family, too! She welcomed everyone into her home with open arms … and food! She was proud of her Italian heritage and loved to share her amazing cooking and baking skills for family and friends. Her favorite day of the week was Sunday – after church, the feast began. Most weeks she didn't know who would be joining, but there was always enough food to feed a small army.
While heaven is blessed with another angel, she will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
