She was the beloved wife of the late Attilio; loving mother of Donna Fortunato and her husband Rocco, Leo Somma and his wife Beth, Ralph Somma and his wife Laurie, and Steven Somma and his wife Cindy; cherished grandmother of Matthew Somma, Michael Somma and his wife Mary Ellen, Jacqueline Somma, Gregory Somma, Christopher Somma, Steven Somma and Emily Rose Somma; devoted great-grandmother of William (Wiley) and Charlie; dear sister of Theresa Regina, Jeanie Inglesino, Rae Zenni, Annabella Torregrossa and her husband Terry, and Catherine Saleeby and her husband Raymond, the late Lucy Fiduccia, the late Anthony Coppola, the late Natalie Sansivero . She was also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Somma was born in Manhattan and moved to Brooklyn as a young child. After marrying her husband in 1950, she stayed home to take care of her family. Later in life she was proud to finish her education and complete high school. Rose thoroughly enjoyed singing and enjoyed listening to music and dancing. She was an excellent cook, specializing in meatballs, pasta fagiole and fish dishes. Her family especially remembers her Christmas Eve dinners, as she loved to entertain her family on the holidays, where there was room for everyone. She was very meticulous in caring for her home. Rose was very close to her parents Ralph and Catherine and took special care of them her entire life. In her younger days she made herself available to care for her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them.
In lieu of flowers, the family of Rose Somma would appreciate donations be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
