Obituary of John P. Menoni
John P. Menoni, 68, of Westerleigh, passed away Thursday, March 18, 2021 at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Manhattan.
John was the beloved husband of his wife, Dawn (Staubitz); the loving father of his three sons and daughters-in-law, John and his wife Maryanne, Adam and his wife Michelle, and Christian and his wife Tricia; and the adored grandfather (Bop) of Kelsey Cole, Thomas, Joseph, Hudson, McKenzie, and Alexia.
John was born and raised on Staten Island and graduated from Susan Wagner H.S. He then joined the U.S. Navy and became a Seabee in 1971. He was deployed with Mobile Construction Battalion One to Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean. His battalion was one of the first groups of Seabees to arrive on the island to build airstrips on this now strategic military base. After leaving the Navy he worked for the Bd. of Education as a school fireman. In 1985, he joined the NYC Dept. of Sanitation and worked at the Fresh Kills landfill until retiring in 2005.
His sons meant more to him than anything else in the world and he was unendingly proud of them; Adam, owner of Qualitech Computers, Staten Island, and Captain John Menoni and Detective Christian Menoni, both of the NYPD. His favorite moments were spent playing golf with his three sons. John was their go-to guy for all their home repairs and woodworking projects. He loved working with his hands and could fix just about anything. He adored all of his grandchildren and loved attending their sports events and recitals and they adored their “Bop”.
