Obituary of Anthony "Tony" DeLuca

ony (Anthony)DeLuca, 60 'A true family man,' proud of his Italian heritage, retired from MTA Tony (Anthony) DeLuca of Annadale, 60 years old, passed away on Saturday, March 27, 2021, after battling stage four kidney cancer for the last year. He had been under the care of Memorial Sloan Kettering. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Denise (Brown); daughter Vanessa, a New York City Police Officer; son, Anthony, a computer programmer; mother, Anna (Cutrone) DeLuca; and siblings, Peter, Michael, Steven (wife Sophia), Dario (wife Jessica), and brother-in-law, John Brown. His father, Michael, passed away in 2000. He was a devoted husband, father, son and nephew to an extended family of uncles and aunts who could always rely on Tony being there when needed. A lifelong native of Staten Island, Mr. DeLuca was a graduate of Wagner College, where he was a member of TKE fraternity. He graduated from Moore Catholic High School and St. Teresa's Elementary School. Growing up, he was a Staten Island Advance paper carrier. The only period of his life when he did not live on Staten Island was when he attended Oneonta State College, but he missed his family, friends and mother's cooking too much and transferred home after only one semester upstate. In 1981 he met his future wife, Denise, and thus began a lifelong love affair. They married in 1985 and lived in several Staten Island neighborhoods before settling in Annadale. Mr. DeLuca was a true family man who enjoyed nothing more than watching his children grow into adulthood, hosting family barbecues, and marching in the Travis Fourth of July Parade. He attended services at St. Anthony of Padua church, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society. He was also very proud of his heritage and was a member of the Order of Sons of Italy in America. After graduating college in 1982, he worked for a brief period on Wall Street and then as a substitute New York City public school teacher before ultimately joining the New York City MTA from which he retired after 30 years in February of 2021. Family and friends to be received Monday, April 5, from 3 pm to 8 pm at Matthew Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial is on Tuesday, April 6, at St. Anthony of Padua, R.C. Church, at 10:30 a.m. Entombment to follow, Moravian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Tony's name to the Wounded Warrior Project (https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org) Matthew Funeral Home 2508 Victory Blvd. Staten Island, NY 10314 (718) 761-5544
