Obituary of Michael Spenceri
Michael Spenceri of Toms River, N.J., passed away peacefully in his sleep on Jan. 10, 2018, at the age of 94. Mr. Spenceri was born in Hibbing, Minn., July 30, 1923. He spent his childhood in New Brighton on Staten Island, N.Y. Mr. Spenceri served in the U.S.Army as a corporal during World War II in the Atlantic theater. He saw action in Central Europe, the Rhineland, Rome, and southern France. He was awardedthe Purple Heart after seeing action during the Anzio Beach Invasion.
After the war he was an officer in the trust department of the former Manufacturers Hanover Trust Co., in Manhattan, for 38 years. He married Rose Libertucci of New Brighton on Oct. 5, 1947. During their 55 years of marriage they enjoyed travelling to Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and Hilton Head, S.C. When not travelling, he enjoyed rooting for his favorite sports teams, especially the New York Yankees. His greatest love, however, was always his family. He is survived by his daughter Debra Silvestri and son-in-law Robert Silvestri of Marlboro, N.J., along with his three grandchildren Kevin, Gregg, and Lindsay and her husband Jordan.
