Obituary of Florence Stone

Florence Stone, 90 years young, passed away on April 25, 2020. Florence was a long time resident of Gerritsen Beach Brooklyn until moving to Staten Island to live with daughter Gayle. Late in her golden years, she resided at Carmel Richmond Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, in Staten Island, where she had many friends, including her very dear friend, the late Carmela DeLuca. Florence was the wife of the late Arthur Stone, and loving mother to Karen Malespin and husband Roger, Diane Tolk and husband Jeffrey, Gayle D'Ambrosi and partner Paul DeGrazia, and John Stone and his wife, the late Susan Stone. She was grandmother to Anthony J. Spinelli, Gina D'Ambrosi Tighe, Jason Rosenthal, Andrew D'Ambrosi, Kris Malespin, Michael Rosenthal, John Stone, Jr., and Kristen Sommese and great grandmother to Anthony V. Spinelli, Mikayla Tighe, Benjamin Tighe, Nicholas Spinelli, Julian Rosenthal, Jaxon Rosenthal, Gabriella Sommese, Salvatore Stone, and the newest addition to the family, Skyla Sommese. Florence was a nurses aide at Kings County Hospital, a profession she loved and enjoyed until meeting and marrying dashing elevator operator, Arthur, and becoming a stay at home wife and mom. She became an avid bowler and worked part time for many years at Brunswick Rainbow Lanes, where she was known by all and had many friends. Florence enjoyed bicycle riding, watching her soaps, and monthly trips to Atlantic City. In later years she was a member of the Mt. Loretto Friendship Club where she stayed active and had many treasured friends. A memorial service will be held at Matthew Funeral Home, 2508 Victory Boulevard, Staten Island, on Monday, May 17, 9:00-11:00 a.m., followed by burial beside her husband at Calverton National Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to the service. Masking, social distancing, and capacity restrictions will be in effect, which may result in a slight delay in visiting. Burial at Calverton is private due to COVID 19 restrictions.
