Dear Sal,
You and your Father's Spirit lives with every day.
Sal one day presented me with 2 tiny white fig plants, wrapped in wet newspaper from his Dad's garden. I planted them in my Mom's backyard, where they grew and flourished her with delicious, sweet digs. They lived with my Mom for 10+ years. When she decided to move from Queens to Long Island, she insisted that Sal's fig trees had to move with her. Who could refuse Mom, so I spent 1 hour and a half digging up 2 6ft fig trees and loading them dirt and all in my truck.
I told my Mother that I wanted one of the trees for my front yard, she reluctantly agreed. Today, Sal and his Father's fig trees live on in me and my Mom's yards, and so do Sal and his Dad.
When I sometimes look at these lovely plants, they remind me of a story Sal told me, of how his Father, who at the time was 82 years young, would climb a very tall ladder to wrap his fig tree in order to protect it from the Winter's cold. The story always makes me smile.
God Bless you Sal , I will miss you and your Father, though I never had the pleasure to meet. God Bless you Marlene, and your family. God Bless the Amato Family. Sal we shall meet again Brother. Hold a good spot on the fishing boat for me. I'll bring the beer!

I met Sal about 20+ years ago, immediately became friends, he was a wonderful person, always willing to lend a helping hand.
Sal and I reunited when he was promoted to MSII and joined our Material Control family, West 4th Safety. He always had something nice to say and invited me to a poker tournament in Brooklyn which was fun. You will be missed my friend.
Rich, Carmine, Gary and I (Adrian) will miss working with you at West 4th.

I met Sal many years ago. He was the carpenter for the team under my supervision at that time.
Been frank, my knowledge about carpentry was very limited.
I can proudly say that Sal took me by the hand in each one of the jobs that we were assigned.
Without showing it, Sal was the soul of the group. He used to blend his seriousness with a good dose of mischief. He helped us all.
Years passed and the life in Transit separated us, but even so, we maintained a beautiful and sincere friendship. The only kind of friendship that Sal could offer.
He always had me on his fishing list.
I'm going to miss the messages inviting me Sal.
Thank you for the time you shared with us, for your frienship and love..
Thank you Lord for putting beings like Sal in our path.
Wherever you are, dear friend, receive my deep and sincere affection.
Until every day of fishing Sal.
Ricky Muñoz.

Condoglianze a tutta la famiglia amato. Sal mi ha insegnato a leggere e scrivere quando sono arrivata in America. Lho sempre amato come fosse mio figlio. Il dolore nel mio cuore è grandissimo. Non ci sono parole per esprimere conforto per una tale perdita. Condoglianze a tutti voi da zia Anna.
