I am so sorry to hear of Anthony’s passing. I remember both him and Joan fondly from my childhood, they had rented from my grandmother for a few years ( many years ago) before moving out to Long Island. I remember his black convertible with the white top also.
My condolences to Joan and her family. May he Rest In Peace.

Anthony, I was very sad to hear of your passing & sorry that I couldn't make it to the funeral to pay my respects. I was glad we were able to get together a few years back at my house in Bayridge when you came with your lovely wife Joan and we were joined by your cousins Nick & John Calderone with their wives Yvonne & Jackie. Billy Straubinger & his wife Linda also attended. My wife Eileen was very pleased she had a chance to meet you & Joan, she's a special gal. I also remember how warm and gracious your mom & dad were when ever I rang the door bell & called for you to come out for a game or just to hang out. The Longobardi's were a special family. Being aware of the success of your children, I know they still are.
Our times in Astoria were very special and I have many great memories of our times playing CYO baseball for Immaculate Conception. You were multi-talented as you could be catcher in one game, an outfielder in another and even pitch when called upon. Most of all I remember our many years of playing "rough touch" football on 33rd street and at various parks and school yards in Astoria & beyond. (For the uninitiated 'rough touch' is played on concrete with blocking). I could go on & on here with stories. I want your sons to know that you were a good friend and great teammate. I remember only losing a few games over a 5-8 year period. You were a willing solid blocker and an exceptional Tight End and your fantastic one handed catches were worthy of being a high light on ESPN. We often thought you had Glue on your hands. I know our QB (your cousin Nick) always counted on you. I can't remember you dropping any important passes in clutch situations. You were always upbeat and made people feel good with your warm personality.
I can't stop without mentioning the many good times your friends had following the 'Band' (Fuzz & Sandels) you formed with cousin Nick, Paul Straub & Ralph Diphillips. You drumming was a major part of their popularity. (1965-70) You guys even opened up one night at a club in LIC for Patti LaBelle & the Blue Bells! A few years ago I ran into a young guy from Astoria who remembered me from the neighborhood & knew I was a friend of the band. He said to me, "my friends & I enjoyed following Fuzz & Sandels around when they played. They were the best band to come out of Astoria". Yeah, you guys brought a lot of good times and smiles to a lot of people. I've been blessed to be able to call you friend and teammate. My memories of you will always be many and warm. GOD Bless you Tony!

Sending my deepest love and condolences to the family. I am blessed to have had him in my life growing up. So easy going and never stressed. I remembered him having a Black Cutless with a white top convertible. Thought it was the coolest car. I also remember going to grandmas house and going up to his room and trying on the cologne he had on his dresser. I tried them all and I think I got in trouble. He taught me a lesson one time when I was 16 or so when they owned a stationery store in Port Jefferson. I was doing some work to help out and must have been cutting corners. He said to me, “ John, don’t paint around the picture”. That stuck with me and even to this day I reference it when dealing with issues and people in my life. I am sorry I was away all of these years but I am so glad that I saw you at the graduation party upstate a few years ago. God rest your soul my uncle and please hug and kiss the rest of the family you are joining now. Love you, John Conti

Mr. Longobardi, Thank you for your friendship. You were always a Gentleman. A memory I have to share is when you invited me to your home for dinner, but after you saw how much I ate, you said you weren’t inviting me back. May you now Rest In Peace. Amen.
