Obituary of Antonio DiCairano
Antonio DiCairano "Tony", 74, formerly of Mt. Vernon, New York, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2021, surrounded by his loving family who he adored more than anything else in the world. Antonio is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Ernestina, their daughter, Nancy (Steve) and grandsons, Steven, Joseph, and Matthew. He is also survived by his sister, Josephine Della Mura, his brother, Dr. Steve DiCairano (Cathy), sister-in-law Michelina DiCairano and many beloved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Bartolomeo, Luigi and his brother-in-law Anthony Della Mura.
Antonio "Tony" was born in Calitri, Italy on June 8, 1947. He emigrated to the United States when he was 17 years old with his mother and siblings and settled in Mt. Vernon, New York. On December 5, 1970, Antonio married the love of his life, Ernestina. He worked as a Produce Manager for the A & P for over forty years until his retirement.
Tony will be remembered for his infectious smile, teasing jokes, unfailing work ethic, love of his family, and willingness to help anyone in their time of need. Nothing gave him more enjoyment than his three adoring grandsons and grandpup, Leo. Antonio was an avid sports fan. He loved cheering for his favorite football team, the New York Jets. He had a passion for watching and playing soccer. Antonio was thrilled when the Italian soccer team, Azzurri, won the Euro Cup this year. Also, he treasured the annual Italian traditions of wine making and canning tomatoes with family.
Antonio "Tony" will be enormously missed and fondly remembered by family and friends.

Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Tuesday, 8/24, departing at 9:00 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's R.C. Church at 10:00 am. Interment to follow in Rose Hills Memorial Park Cemetery, Putnam Valley, New York. Family and friends may visit on Monday, 8/23, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.
