Obituary of Lisa Markoe

Along with our mom, Maureen Markoe, we are very sad to share the passing of our sister, Lisa Markoe, a resident of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. She succumbed to her years-long battle with a terminal lung disease in the community she was born and raised, Staten Island. Lisa is a graduate of Our Lady of Good Counsel and the former Francis School on Staten Island. She thoroughly enjoyed a decades-long career as a clerk in the Radiology Department at Bayley Seton Hospital until its closure. She then transferred to Saint Vincent's Medical Center, now Richmond University Medical Center. She built life-long friendships with many co-workers at both hospitals. It was a big part of her life, one that she shared with us on many occasions through stories and memories. The love of her life was her son, Kyle Gordon. She was beaming with pride at his high school graduation from the Ralph R. McKee High School and was always proud of his work as an electrician. Kyle will always be a reminder of Lisa's presence in this world as he is the spitting image of his beautiful mom. Our mom and our sister Lisa had a beautiful relationship, a beautiful friendship really, staying in touch through the good days and bad days, discussing "their story" (soap opera) and the day's events. Lisa also leaves behind two loving brothers-in-law plus the numerous nieces and nephews who loved her. Lisa was also blessed with having so many wonderful friends and being surrounded by the right people at the right time, when she really needed them the most, especially her "daughter" and angel, Emily Ciprich. She was loved very much by her best friend Kathy Callahan and her "brother" Chris Gordon. Lisa was a warrior in battling a lung disease that had no cure. She battled it with courage, perseverance, and even a bit of humor when the doctors or nurses were getting too serious, and everyone just really needed a laugh! Now that's she's gone there are a lot of broken hearts, but we are taking comfort in knowing that she is with our dad now, Ozzie Markoe. She has missed him terribly since his passing in 1989. So, while we grieve, we also smile, knowing that they are no longer apart. As we all move forward, it is our hope that the many who loved her and will always miss her, honor her in their own unique way. Whether that is by watching a cooking show she would have loved, enjoying a nice glass of wine, tuning into her favorite soap opera, or maybe even completing something on her coveted bucket list like that helicopter ride or trip to Greece she always wanted to take. To know our sister was to love her. It was that simple. As her sisters, we know how much love was shown to her in her final weeks and for that we will forever be grateful. She left us peacefully and with grace and dignity. Marlene Markoe-Boyd and Jeannine Markoe Turner. A memorial visitation will be held at Matthew Funeral home located at 2508 Victory on Wednesday, September 8th, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
