My father Mel Scalici and mother Josephine of “Jomel Jewelers” loved Lou…both loved all matters related to Stapleton. I met Lou through them and took an instant liking to him — who didn’t? — with a firm handshake. After my dad died and the store closed, I occasionally bumped into Lou. When I reminded him who I was, he lit up and discussed my parents, his kids, my life and work. He always asked about my mom. He was that kind of guy, which is why I shed a tear and saluted him today and paid my respects to a good man.
