Doug was most proud of his service to our country where he earned three Good Conduct Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, two Sea Service Deployment Ribbons, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal Combat Action Ribbon. Doug often sent letters home to family documenting his time in service, including one letter that were published in the Staten Island Advance in December of 1967.
