Obituary of Peter L. Anderson
Peter L. Anderson, 79, of Westerleigh passed away peacefully on January 7th, after nearly a decade long battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of the late Jean Anderson (1993), loving father of Karen, the late Craig Anderson, Mark and wife Nancy Anderson & Brian and Wife Christine Anderson. "Poppy" was loved by his grandchildren, Carly Anderson Briggs, husband Benjamin Briggs, Nicholas and wife Rosaria, Kyle, Erik, Tyler and Conner Anderson and great granddaughter Amelia. Brother of Tad (Dale) Anderson and the late Jill Sawyer & Brian Anderson.
Peter was born and raised in Westerleigh, attended PS22, Port Richmond High School and Moravian College. As a teenager, Peter delivered the SI Advance, worked at Majors Records and sustained an interest in popular music throughout his life. He met his wife Jean at the Castleton Hill Moravian Church, where he later became the Youth Group Leader and a Sunday School Teacher. Peter was a gifted reader, often concurrently reading several novels at a given time. He rooted for the Jets and was the first resident to walk across the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge.
Mr. Anderson was the purchasing manager at Sun Chemical in Rosebank for 40 years, where he created their first inter-relational database to keep track of the company's regional material ordering, inventory, and shipments. Peter also worked nights and weekends as a home improvement contractor, building bathrooms, decks and kitchens around the island, for friends and colleagues. He retired in 2002, volunteering at various cultural institutions on Staten Island, including the information booth at South Ferry, Fort Wadsworth and the Conference House. He traveled the world, especially pursuing his interests in canals and railroads.
Visitation at the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Monday, 1/10, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. A service is scheduled on Tuesday, 1/11, at 11:30 am in the funeral home, with interment to follow in Moravian Cemetery.
