Obituary of Helen Iatauro

Helen Iatauro, 97, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2022. Born Helen Venturini, in Astoria, Queens, to Anthony and Loretta Venturini, on June 28, 1924. She was brought to a farm on Richmond Hill Road and attended a one room school house. During the war she worked for Western Electric, wiring radios for aircraft. In 1944-1945 she worked at the Port of Embarkation in Stapleton, and this is where her husband, who was with the 69th Infantry, landed when he returned from overseas, and the picture in the Daily News read “A Girl in one Port”. After the war Ms. Iatauro worked in New York City in several banks, and also Gulf Oil. In 1960 she left Gulf Oil to work at the former Port Ivory Plant as a Keypunch Operator, and later as a Secretary from which she retired after 26 years. Since retiring in 1986 her time has been spent caring for her mother and brother with down syndrome. In her spare time she crocheted numerous afghans and baby sets which she sent to a friend at a convent in Yonkers to be distributed to the nuns and the poor. She has also worked on the Board of Elections. She is survived by one grandson, Matthew Carl Iatauro and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Linda in infancy in 1946, and also by her brothers Henry, Philip, John and Dominick Venturini, as well as her sisters Carmella Nelson and Mary Logosso. A cryptside service is scheduled on Tuesday, 3/15, at 11:00 am, at Moravian Cemetery.
