Dear Papadopoulos family,
Through my decades-long friendship with Nick, I got to meet you all, many of you when you were just the little, if not baby brothers, and Pat, the little sister with the biggest and bestest personality. But meeting your parents, and your dad, were very special to me growing up. There was something very comforting as a teenager knowing your friend’s parents were GOOD people as we say. Your father was a hard working man. That we know. But I’m telling you that whenever I visited, he had a smile and a joke or something wise to say. Your dad made this world a better place. And whether or not they know it, many, many people in the city of New York were touched by him through the fantastic food (and Donuts!) he fed them, day in and day out.
My love to you all! A wonderful day - he’s smiling upon you all!
Love, David Goldman

Papou was kind and hardworking, who loved his family. I remember him telling me how my mother always told him that she felt like a burden to her family. After that I always made sure I told her and made sure she did not feel like a burden at all and it was a pleasure to take care of her. Papou will surely be missed at family gatherings. May you rest in peace. Παππού σε αγαπάμε πάντα.

To the Papadopoulos Siblings,
Nick called me this morning and told me the news about your beloved father.
I first met your father at the restaurant at Victory and Bay. I remember thinking that your father, in his apron and all, was a King there, and he was holding court. Over the years, Nick would take me on visits to your Dad and I would see him there, at 14th street, at the diner in Arthur Kill, and of course your house. For the most part I always saw him hard at work, but I remember glimpses of him catching the baseball game on tv in the background. I remember his stories of being a radio telephone operator in the military and also his time as a soccer athlete.
I remember that words seemed to emanate and flow from behind his moustache and that over the years he never really changed much physically in my eyes. He was always pretty much upright, and always looked you in the eye. I always felt I was in the presence of a man with purpose and drive. I also grew up with your family. I share the story of an immigrant family so there are certain things that I can relate to with all of you growing up, but there are also things that I essentially being an only child and being the son of a doctor and businessman made my life a whole lot easier than all of you, and your experiences growing up. My family certainly had our struggles, but I was, and remain in absolute awe of each of your individual success stories. I would imagine that the DNA and drive that your father gave you was instrumental in the wonderful success story of your family.
Recently, Nick asked me to pick up your Dad and drive him to George's for a get together. I loved that drive. It was an honor and a privilege. I loved how amused he was with the technology of the car, but at the same time it also wasn't much of a big deal to him either. I loved hearing all the stories that he told and about some of the challenges he faced over the years to include the building collapse that he narrowly escaped from being in.
When your father spoke to me he always seemed to have twinkle in his eye, and smile behind that moustache. I remember he seemed to be able to drive that huge station wagon effortlessly, and could activate the turn signal with his pinky. I know he seemed to like Southern Comfort and Coca Cola.
Your father was a legend indeed, and I am honored to have known "Jimmy Pappas" and to have been in his presence. May his memories be a blessing, and continued inspiration to yourselves, your children, and all the future generations of the Papadopulos family.
With much love and respect to you and your entire families,
Ashwin
