Obituary of Samuel Elcock
Samuel Elcock died on March 1st, 2022 in Staten Island, NY. He was 86. Samuel was born Bridgetown, Barbados in 1936. He immigrated to United Kingdom in 1961 where he lived in Finsbury Park, London. He enlisted in Royal Airforce as a Leading Aircraftman from 1961 and 1966 and fondly retold his experiences in the service which included stints in Cyprus and Malta.
While in the RAF Samuel worked as a computer operator on one of the earliest computers, the ICT 1900 series mainframe. Samuel moved to Brooklyn, New York in 1969 and married Yvonne Mason in 1970. He then received a Bachelors in Business from Empire College.
He later worked as computer operator at the headquarters of Avis Car Rental for 20 years.
Samuel was reserved by nature, but always enjoyed discussing politics or reminiscing about his days in Barbados.
Samuel is survived by his wife Yvonne of 52 years, his step-son Rod Mason, his nephews and nieces Jerry, Winston, Edward, Phillip, Keith, Marsha, Margaret, Carol, Curtis, Earle, Myrna, Melva, Cherry, and Wayne. He will be missed.
The blessing of his ashes will be held at Brighton Heights Reformed Church.
