Obituary of Lorraine A. Esposito
Lorraine Santore Esposito, 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday after a brief illness. A life-long Staten Island resident, she was born September 14, 1928 in New Brighton to Filomena (Santore) and John Santore, the youngest of their six daughters. She was a graduate of P.S. 17 and Curtis High School, where her name is still inscribed on the wall of honor. In 1951, she married Joseph Esposito of West Brighton, with whom she had four children. They were married 34 years before Joseph's sudden death in 1985.
Lorraine attended New York University before entering the workforce as a bookkeeper. She worked for Superior Chocolates and always loved bringing treats home for her family. She was also employed at Garber Brothers and the Colony Shop, and later, worked for many years with Gallo and Leibman, certified public accountants, as a tax specialist.
Lorraine was committed to her community, including as a member of the Granito-Smith American Legion Auxiliary, serving as treasurer for many years. She also donated her time volunteering at St. Dorothy's Academy and Moore Catholic High School where she applied her bookkeeping skills to running the school bookstore. She was a faithful parishioner at Holy Family Church and a member of their Altar-Rosary Society.
Aside from her family and friends, Lorraine's other great love was the New York Yankees. She was a devoted and passionate fan, keeping a scorecard for every game, recording the final scores and marking each player's achievements. She never missed a game and was delighted when her family gifted her with a private tour of the new Yankee Stadium.
Above all, Lorraine loved her family and the time she spent with them, especially her four children, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She always put others before herself and made sure no one was ever in need of anything, especially a delicious, home-cooked meal. She would host her family for the holidays, particularly the Christmas Eve's traditional feast of the seven fish, an event her family cherished and looked forward to every year. Deprived of company during the pandemic, her family surprised her with a "Christmas in July" celebration in 2021, organized by her daughter Lori.
Lorraine was predeceased by her parents, Filomena and John, her sisters, Carmela, Rose, Domenica (Minnie), Lucy and Antoinette (Netta). She is survived by her children Corinne Driscoll, Lori (William) Perry, Joseph (Debra), and John Mark Esposito; her grandchildren, Neil and Joseph Driscoll, Corey Dunham, Tracy DiGenova, Kaitlin and Sarah Perry, Daphne, Julien, and Chloe Esposito; great grandchildren, Betty, Cornelius, and Sally Driscoll and Madeline Dunham; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of friends and neighbors - each and every one of whom will miss her warmth, humor and unconditional love more than words can say.
Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Monday, departing at 10:00 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family R.C. Church at 10:30 am. Interment to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Saturday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm and Sunday from 1:00 to 3:00 pm and 5:00 to 7:00 pm.
