My grandmother, my Tata (Rene Malouf) passed away early this morning. 96 years old. She was my favorite person. My heart hurts, but I’m happy she’s not suffering and is in a better place now. She can celebrate my grandfather’s 105th birthday with him in heaven. She was a mom of three, grandmother of eight and great grandma of thirteen. We were so blessed to have her in our lives for so long. I am grateful that we were so close and that she was equally as close with my boys and Rob. She was the strongest, most loving, funny and generous person that I’ve ever known. She had so many people that adored her. I wish she would’ve came and lived with me so I could’ve taken care of her. Rob, the boys and I asked her each time we spoke, however she was too independent and didn’t want to leave NY and be a burden to anyone. She’s been there for me always. She was my best friend. She was so full of love, strength and life and that’s how I’ll always remember her. She promised me since I was a teenager that when she passed she was going to continuously haunt me. I hope she keeps her promise. I will always hold our many memories close to my heart and could only hope to be as wonderful of a mother, grandmother and great grandmother as she was. She will be greatly missed.

My aunt was a very special lady. A legend in her own right. She was remarkably strong, independent, kind hearted and loving all wrapped up into one little lady. I have a special memory when I was a little girl, of going to her house every day after school in Brooklyn and she would give me ice cream or some kind of treat. We had many sleep overs with my cousins on 78st and she made them fun and special. As I got older, I admired her more and more. I see her strength in me and can only aspire to be like her as an aunt, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and friend to all. We would make it a point to stop in at the flower shop whenever we passed through Staten Island. She never sat still. She is now with Ammo Riad and her siblings and rest of the Maloof family. Say hello to baba. Stevie and I Love you and miss you already.
