Obituary of Jose "Pete" G. Decena

Obituary for Jose G. Decena (1939-2018).

Jose "Pete" Decena, 78, of Emerson Hill, and beloved son of the late Silvino and Loreto Decena, passed away on Monday, February 26, 2018.

Pete retired as Senior Auditor for the Department of Defense after over 30 years of dedicated service. He was an avid supporter of various local and international charitable and religious organizations, including the Talaga Central School, the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Batangas, the Philippines, and the Lord's Flock of Staten Island. He was an active member of the prestigious International Fraternal Masonic Organization, both the Jose Rizal Lodge (his Mother Lodge) and the Gramercy 537 Lodge, based in NY. Pete was also a generous member of Regal Court #1, an order of the Amaranth of New York.

In addition to community and church involvement, Pete was the drummer for Grown-Up Band, and took great joy in performing at local parties and events. Pete lived a full and adventurous life in which he was very fortunate to have traveled the world. He will truly be missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Pete is survived by his wife of 46 years, Julia; daughters: Leilani, Lorelei and Luella and their partners, respectively: Michael Shepherd, James Fleischmann and Max Mayzus; grandchildren: Jacob, Jordan and Kaylie; sisters: Luz D. Vicente (widow), Norma D. Sanchez (married to Alejandro Sanchez) and Aida D. Dionisio (married to Fred Dionisio); niece, Geraldine Zaragoza; great-nephews: Ryan, Kyle, Byron and Dylan, as well as many loving friends and extended family.

Friends and family are welcome to visit Matthew Funeral Home, 2508 Victory Blvd, Staten Island, NY on Thursday, March 1 and Friday, March 2 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm.

The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, March 3rd at 9:30am at St. Teresa's Church, 1634 Victory Blvd., Staten Island, NY followed by interment at Moravian Cemetery, 2205 Richmond Road, Staten Island.
