Obituary of John J. Cichon

Obituary John J. Cichon Faithful Catholic, Friend to All – John J. Cichon peacefully entered into eternal rest on November 15, 2022. Born in 1930 to John and Sophie Cichon, their baby boy was one of seven. He was predeceased in death by his three brothers Henry, Stanley and Benny and his two sisters Emily and Mary. He is survived by his sister Connie. John was a proud American who honorably served his country in the United States Army. He later served the people of the city he loved for 31 years first as a New York City Police Officer followed by an FDNY Firefighter. In 1957 he married the love of his life Helen L. Cichon where he faithfully stood by her side for 63 years until her passing. Later that same year they welcomed his first-born son John B. followed by Michael W. two years later. In 1963 as a founding member of Engine Co. 166 Ladder Co. 86 he proudly served as a firefighter at a house in his native borough – The Bulls Head Richmond Avenue Firehouse where he remained until his retirement in 1986. John was a friend to many but his family was everything to him. John loved being a husband, a father to his two sons, however, the most treasured aspect and ultimately the purpose of his life to which he loved was watching his family grow. Especially the birth of his grandchildren John Nicholas and Ann Katrina. His world changed again when his grandson married Sarah DiBiase. Finally, his world would be forever changed when his granddaughter gave birth to his great grandchildren James Nicholas and Harper Joan with her husband Corey Greener. As a member of the Cichon American Legion Post he was both proud and humbled; proud of the ultimate sacrifice his brothers Henry and Stanley made during WWII yet humbled by the attention. A visit to this unsung heroes' home would always be met with a warm welcoming, a huge smile and a hot cup of coffee. Friends and Relatives will be received at the Matthew Funeral Home on Friday From 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of St. Adalbert at 10:00am on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory may be made to the H&S Cichon American Legion Post # 1578, 100 Innis St. Staten Island, NY 10302.
