Obituary of Anna Choi

Anna Choi was born in Yeosu, South Korea on January 30th, 1950 to her parents Young Shik Shin, and Sun Ah Lee. She was the third of six children. She attended Yeosu Women’s High School, and then became a registered nurse at Jesu Nursing College in Jeonju. There she met her future husband, Edmond Choi, and they married in 1974. Their first child, Aaron, was born in Korea in 1975, and then in 1976, they emigrated to The United States and settled in Los Angeles, California. In 1977, their daughter Myra was born, and in 1979, they moved to Portland Oregon. In Portland Oregon, Anna practiced nursing at St. Vincent’s Hospital in the chemotherapy department, one of the first chemotherapy departments in the country. She was a registered nurse for 11 years, until she and Edmond moved their family to New York City in 1988 to support both of their children’s musical studies. They opened a dry cleaning business in New York City, and eventually multiplied their business. They raised Aaron and Myra to both become professional classical musicians, both respected in their fields. Anna became a beloved member of ManBaekSung Church of Staten Island in 2010. She lovingly served the church community with all her heart and energy. She loved to help people, and she sacrificially served her church community with joy. One of her favorite things to do was to meet friends for some walking exercise in the Staten Island Mall and then have breakfast and coffee together. She took up playing the harmonica and the cello, and in her retirement enjoyed traveling with family as well as for missionary trips with her church. Anna and Edmond loved to go to Bear Mountain together to see the foliage, and they both loved to talk politics, as well as recount stories about their grandchildren on a regular basis. Anna loved children, and had a special way of caring for both babies and the elderly. She was a skilled tailor, making many of her children’s clothes as well as tailoring clothes professionally throughout her life. She was an excellent cook, a member of the church choir, and enjoyed reading and poetry, as well as having fun with friends and family. She smiled always and laughed often. She was always kind and gentle, with an enduring spirit in all things. She was a beautiful wife and loving mother. She is a beautiful daughter of God, and she has now entered into His eternal glory. We will miss her dearly. A funeral service is scheduled at Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Saturday, 1/28, at 7:00 pm. A graveside service is scheduled for Monday, 1/30, at 11:00 in Moravian Cemetery.
