Obituary of Letty Patino

Letty Patino, 67, of Staten Island, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Monday, May 15, 2023, after a battle with colon cancer. She was the beloved soulmate of Luis Patino for 42 wonderful years; loving mother of Melissa and her husband Francis, David and his wife Shiori and was the cherished grandmother of Naia. Letty, known as Chatty to her family, was born on November 2, 1955, in Buena Fe, Ecuador. She was the youngest of 13 brothers and sisters and had a wonderful childhood playing among the banks of the river, with her brothers and sisters and her childhood sweetheart Luis. Those two had a mock wedding at 8 years old, and finally were married in real life at the age of 26. After marrying her husband, she immigrated to New York City and pursued a career in banking which lasted many years. While banking was her career, her passions were wide and varied. She loved gardening and encouraging life to bloom every year during Spring. She was an avid student of the soul and devoted much of her life to the pursuit of greater understanding of the world around her- seen and unseen. Every morning, her daily practice consisted of yoga and meditation that was geared toward the healing of the planet and its inhabitants. She was a confidant for many, a trusted voice of reason and someone who always gave great advice. She was an endless fountain of love for everyone- friends, family and even strangers. Chatty was a reiki practitioner who focused on healing physical, mental and spiritual ailments in others, near and far. She was an avid traveler and enjoyed learning more about the world through people, food, and culture. One of her favorite places to visit was Hawaii - where her children live. While there, they would spend countless hours together, hiking, swimming, camping, exploring, snorkeling, and enjoying each other's company. Though she had travelled the world and experienced so much beauty, she still approached the world with wonder and awe. She could find magic in everything and encouraged others to do so as well. Her favorite phrases were "Que Lindo" or "That's so nice", usually in appreciation of some nature phenomenon, a sweet gesture of kindness or anything that generated wholesomeness. Chatty's spirit will live on through all the lives she has touched through her love, care, and compassion. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Friday, departing at 10:45 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael’s R.C. Church at 11:30 am. Private Cremation to follow.
