Obituary of Maria C. Phipps-Sayaman
Maria Phipps-Sayaman passed away peacefully at her home with family by her side on May 28th, 2023, after a valiant fight against pancreatic cancer. She was the beloved wife and life companion of Pablito Sayaman Jr for over 20 wonderful years; loving and devoted mother to Jalen and Keana Sayaman, sister to Ana Rocio Camilo, cherished and loving aunt to Gaby, Keanu, Thomas, Jennifer and Hannah and a youthful grandmother to Kaylee. She’s survived by her father, Ramon Phipps and will be joining her mother, Rafaela Camilo in heaven.
Maria was born on April 26th, 1967, in the Dominican Republic. She recently celebrated her 56th born day surrounded by family. Maria resided in Brooklyn, New York prior to moving to Staten Island to raise her family. She was very proud of her Dominican heritage and culture and made sure to share it with everyone and make it a presence in her household. She loved to listen and dance to bachata, salsa and meringue. She cooked her signature dishes and was loved by everyone. Maria wore may hats after graduating high school but was a dedicated employee with Geico for over 25 years until her illness forced her to be sidelined. She built amazing and strong relationships along the way including her spouse, Pablito. It was love at first sight. Maria loved to spend time outdoors and nature with her family, camping, road tripping and sightseeing. She was a road warrior prior to working from home commuting over 150 miles a day. She loved being copilot and co-driver on numerous trips to Florida as well. She loved being at the beach with her family and spent countless hours at the casino with her husband. She was a sports fan and loved the New York Mets. In her spare & leisure time, she enjoyed watching her novellas, doing word find and crossword puzzles and shopping.
Maria was a kind, loving and sweet woman. She was dedicated to her family especially her children and would do anything for them. Her love extended to her friends, co-workers and acquaintances. Maria always made you feel special. Maria was truly a selfless and loving person whose family meant everything to her!
