Obituary of Silvia Prestia

Sylvia Prestia, age 100, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2023. She was the beloved wife of the late Domenic Prestia, loving mother of Nancy Parese (the late Vincent), and the late James Prestia (Kathy), devoted grandmother of Nicole Castellucci, Stephen Prestia (Angela), Lisa Maiz and James Prestia Jr. (Tara). She was the cherished "Big Nanny" of Michael Jr., Anthony, Danny, Alexa, Joseph, Samantha and Sophia. She was predeceased by 7 brothers and sisters. Sylvia was also survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Sylvia was born and raised on Staten Island. As a young girl she worked in the family owned Sorrentino Bakery. She later worked in the garment industry, election Board and NYC Department of Education. For over 60 years she took care of her blind sister, Emily. She dazzled family and friends with her 4th of July parties for over 40 years where 100 plus family and friends enjoyed her cooking and waited patiently for her famous homemade brick oven pizza at the end of the night. She also hosted Christmas Eve dinners for over 50 years with a traditional Italian fish dinner with an open door policy for family and friends. In Sylvia's spare time, she enjoyed traveling, weekend getaways to Atlantic City and spending quality time with her loved ones. She recently celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by her family and friends. She is truly the heart of the family and will be dearly missed. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home Inc., 2508 Victory Blvd. on Friday, 6/23/2023, departing at 10:00 AM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Teresa's R.C. Church at 10:45 AM. Interment will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Thursday, 6/22/2023, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
