Obituary of Alex J. Malichiwski

Alex Joseph Malichiwski, 79, of New Springville, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on August 7, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Joanne, loving father of Kristin M. Giammarco (Christopher) and Rev. Kevin Malick, as well as the cherished grandfather of Christopher George Giammarco. Devoted brother of Stephanie Tedesco. Born in Queens, Alex moved with his young family to Staten Island in 1979. Upon graduation from CUNY, he entered the Internal Revenue Service, retiring after 42 years as a forensic auditor. He received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army National Guard in 1971. A devout Catholic, Alex was an almost daily communicant in St. Rita’s Church. He took special pride in the upkeep and maintenance of his home, where friends and relatives were made especially welcome during the holiday season. Alex enjoyed numerous family vacations over the years, particularly to the Crystal Brook Resort in the Catskill Mountains, and sailing along on ocean cruises. Everyone enjoyed his fine, quick wit and the great pride in which he held his Ukrainian heritage. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Tunnel to Towers foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family. Visitation at the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Wednesday, 8/9, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Family will meet at the R.C. Church of St. Rita on Thursday, 8/10, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Private cremation will follow
