John C. Fodera John Charles Fodera of Sunnyside, Staten Island passed away peacefully on September 24, 2023 in his home of 66 years. He was 92 years old. John was born in Meiers Corners on April 30, 1931 to Charles and Mary (Marino) Fodera. He attended P.S. 30 Elementary School, Curtis High School and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Wagner College. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany where he played on the Army basketball team. He was honorably discharged in 1953 and married his high school sweetheart, Josephine Barretta in 1954. He started working at Chase Manhattan Bank in 1953 and was promoted over his 35 year career to the Director of the Pension Trust Department. He took an early retirement package and began his second career with Bob Scamardella and his law firm. They often said that the office would fall apart without him. For over 30 years, Bobby, Fran & Leslie and the rest of the staff became his extended family. John loved playing baseball and was a huge Yankees fan. In his younger years he played for Curtis HS, Bement Pharmacy and Canal Lumber. He also loved music and dancing. Always the life of the party he was in high demand as the premiere dancing partner for all the ladies. John and his wife Josephine also loved to travel and took many trips with the P&G retirees club across the US. John loved to entertain everyone on the bus by telling jokes and playing trivia games. They also traveled to Italy, Hawaii and Alaska and enjoyed many trips with their lifelong friends. John and his wife were longtime parishioners of Saint Teresa’s Church and St. Nicholas Chapel where he served as an usher and helped open and close the chapel for Sunday masses. John is survived by his loving wife of 69 years Josephine and his 3 children Marieann, Carol and Charlie and their spouses Claire, Eddie and Kathy. He always held a special place in his heart for his 5 grandchildren Chellsy, Jenna, Jillian, Alexa & Ryan. He lived to finally see and kiss his first great grandson Miller. John also had many nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Johnny. He is pre-deceased by his parents Charles and Mary (Marino) in whose eyes he was the perfect son and his ever adoring big sister Marie. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home Inc., 2508 Victory Blvd. on Wednesday, 9/27/2023, departing at 10:00 AM. Funeral Mass will be in St. Teresa’s R.C. Church at 10:45 AM.
