Obituary of Louis A. Sforza

Louis A Sforza, 88 of Westerleigh, Staten Island, NY, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2023. Lou became a member of the FDNY in 1960, and at the time of his passing, he was the Uniformed Firefighters Association disability pension consultant. Over his 63 years with the FDNY and UFA, Lou Sforza held many roles including president of the Union. After retiring formally from the FDNY in 1990 he became the pension consultant for the UFA and held that position until his passing. Lou Sforza spent a lifetime dedicated to the needs of NYC firefighters and their families. Lou was a lifelong resident of Staten Island. The son of Rose and Frank Sforza and brother of Joe, Bibiana and Anthony of Port Richmond. Lou and his wife of 54 years, Jeanette, (deceased 2012) had 4 Children. He is survived by his Four Children Kathleen Sforza, Louis Sforza Jr, (Wife Jean), Lorraine Razzano, (Husband Joe), and Stephen Sforza, (Wife Denise). He had 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Lou Sforza’s biggest passion in life was to be around his family and friends breaking bread. He couldn’t go a day without a visit to the bakery for a fresh loaf of Italian bread. Known affectionately by many as Uncle Lou because of how many lives he touched. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Fairway Club, where he called the public golf courses of Staten Island home. His other passions included gardening, making soup for his grandchildren, his cabin upstate, Surfside beach, having pizza at Jimmy Max with his nephew Jimmy McBratney, and a nice buffet dinner. Beloved Lou Sforza who also went by Louie, Uncle Lou, Grandpa, and GG will be missed by many. However, he will never be far away, Louie had a condition called FOMO, “fear of missing out” so you can be assured he’s there somewhere and forever in our hearts. Visitation will be held at Matthew Funeral Home, 2508 Victory Blvd. Staten Island, NY 10314 on Monday, Dec. 4, 2-4pm and 7-9pm, Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A mass will be held Wednesday, December 6, 2023, 10:30 am at Holy Family Church 366 Watchogue Road, Staten Island, NY 10314.
