Obituary of Teddy Caliano

Teddy Caliano 77 years old passed away on the 29 of December 2023 at his home in Middletown N.J. after a 6-year battle with Parkinsons/Lewy Body Dementia. Teddy grew up on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. As a young boy he worked in his father's grocery store in Little Italy. Teddy spent much of his life supporting the youth of the community by providing a safe environment for them to stay off the streets to learn valuable life lessons in his gyms. He had a lifelong love of martial arts and all forms of self-defense, a student of history & politics. He was a natural born storyteller. He retired from the NYC Sanitation in 1990 & then the NJ Turnpike Authority in 2013. He also worked as a bouncer, security guard, insurance broker & personal trainer. He is predeceased by his father, Ernest Caliano and his mother, Virginia Caliano. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Camille, his son, Charles Caliano (Jennifer) of Monroe, North Carolina, and his daughter, Nina Caliano (Lester) of Long Branch NJ. He is also survived by his sister, Phyllis Saurino of Ocean, NJ and his grandchildren, Joseph, Aubrey, Rocky & Elijah & his many nephews, and his niece. Funeral service at the Matthew Funeral home on Friday January 5, 2024 at 10AM. Family and friends may visit on Thursday January 4, 2024 from 5-9PM. Burial at Calvary Cemetery in Woodside, NY to follow.
