Obituary of William Kartalis

William Kartalis, 83, of Eltingville, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Maria (nee Butera) for 61 years; loving father of Katherine Kartalis, William Kartalis Jr. (Maryann) and Joanna Kartalis; cherished grandfather of Alex, William, Maria, and Peter; dear brother of Constantine Kartalis (Dolores), the late Nufry Kartalis and Christopher Kartalis. He was also survived by many loving nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Mr. Kartalis was born in Brooklyn and raised on Hamilton Avenue in St. George, Staten Island. He was a graduate of Curtis High School. After high school he enlisted and served in the Army reserves. For 40 years, he worked a Supervisor with the New York City Parks Department, retiring in 2002. He worked as and was very passionate about bartending during the disco era. He was written up in the Staten Island Advance regarding his bartending skills and was called "The fastest Mixologist in the east." William enjoyed taking his boat on the water and fishing with his family. He also loved his collection of Cadillacs and Town Cars. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Monday, 1/8, departing at 9:30 am. Funeral service will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church at 10:00 am. Interment to follow in Moravian Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Sunday, 1/7, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.
