Obituary of John J. Flaherty, Jr.

Johh J. Flaherty Jr. was born on May 21, 1946 in Brooklyn. After graduating James Madison High School. John enlisted in the Navy and served on the USS Boston during the Vietnam War. After his service he returned home where he then joined the NYPD and worked in the 69 Precinct, Brooklyn South Task Force and then Mounted Unit, Troop B. After retiring from the NYPD he worked at the Metropolitan Opera House for 32 years first as a security supervisor and then the Performance Manager. He retired during covid. John was a Civil War buff. He enjoyed paying softball and golf. John was predeceased by his parents John and Mildred, sister, Kathleen and brother Richard. He is survived by his wife of 39 years Angela and his children Margaret, John, Michael, Kristina, granddaughter, Madeline, and his sister Geraldine Flaherty. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Blvd. on Monday, 2/5/2024, departing at 10:15 AM. Funeral Mass will be held in Blessed Sacrament Church at 11:00 AM. A private cremation will follow. Family and friends may visit on Sunday, 2/4/2024, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
