Diane Mastrantonio (McHenry) posted a condolence
Tuesday, February 6, 2024
Even though I never had the pleasure of meeting Evelyn, I was fortunate to meet her grandson Anthony who came to Detroit to do a Mercedes commercial playing sax at the International Auto Show. Me, my brother Tom and my mom, Joyce McHenry were invited by Anthony and he was so gracious, generous and brought us above the whole event so we could watch his show. My condolences to you Anthony and your family. I've talked to Wayne Merrell extensively about his sister Evelyn and I wish I had the chance to have met her, what a wonderful lady.

So sorry to hear of Aunt Evelyn's passing. Over the years (and since our family lives in Texas and California), our families crossed paths only a few times. The Aiellos hosted David for a night when he was on his way to Europe. Our parents and Dianna travelled from Texas to New York for a visit. Carolyn came to Texas to scout for universities. And we recall seeing Evelyn at her Mom and Dad's 50th wedding anniversary and at her Dad’s funeral.
One particularly fond memory was seeing Aunt Evelyn and her family in St. Pete at her parent’s 50th Anniversary. We remember how fun-loving Evelyn's family was to be around. Since there are many musicians in both families, it was fun watching the Family Ad Hoc Interstate Band pull together and create some pretty darn good music for Blossom and Leroy’s special occasion. The band played and our Uncle Wayne sang a song, “It’s Just Another Waltz”, that Leroy had written many years ago for his own parent’s 50th Anniversary. Great fun!
I’ve uploaded a photo I found of Aunt Evelyn and Roger when they were tykes.
With love,
David Merrell
