I am so thankful to have known Captain Howard Hill. Howard was a wonderful friend & mentor. He was extremely kind, generous, very thoughtful and always willing to help in any way he could. Howard had more energy than most people half his age and was always the life of the party. He had a black belt in antique shopping and shared his knowledge freely. He was a joy to know and a life to be celebrated. I will cherish all the memories- Thanks Howard! Grace & peace to you my friend. Kerry Ann Crehan-Strøm

Howie will be missed by the many French friends he made over the years: my parents Alain and Béatrice, my sisters Charlotte and Stéphanie, my godmother Martine Laurain and her children Karine, Joëlle and Marc-Olivier... Howie gave me my first job when I was 17 years old. I worked at the Sandy Hook Pilot base in the summer and was so excited to make my first dollars. I discovered New York City in Howie’s Plymouth convertible, took the Staten Island ferry for the first time, steered a pilot boat under the Verrazano Bridge… So many good memories. Howie was such a fun and generous man. I will miss him a lot.

Sending all my love to Nancy, Jen and their families at this very sad time. I feel truly blessed that Howard was my Uncle. He was funny, kind and loving. He cared deeply about his family and friends. He was someone you wanted to be around and spend time with. He always had a new joke to share and so many interesting stories. I have so many wonderful memories of our summers all together in Cape Cod and my visits to Staten Island. I love you Uncle Howard and I will miss you. All my love, Dorset

CONDOLENCES to the family, friends & neighbors of "HOWIE" HILL, a Sandy Hook pilot/seaman/great & RELIABLE friend to many - who will be sorely missed...because he was so full of ideas, interests & a wonderful "go to" person for all - especially his
neighbors over so many years. So glad I met him via Joan. It was so sad to know that Howie never made it back home after moving "temporarily" so far away...His presence was a void that no one else could fill....b/c he was always volunteering to help others, advise all about cars, boats, food & more. What FUN there was when Howie was w/us. THANKS for sharing him w/all.

Our hearts are filled with sadness and tears, but our memories are filled with smiles and good times we shared over the years. Howie took care of our neighbors and especially the Marchi family. My daughter Stefania was right when she wrote his friendship went beyond continents & ocean and touched many lives. Nancy and Jennifer, our families have great memories to share, and we are more than just neighbors but family. Howie rest in peace and you will be missed.

It’s impossible to write all my memories of Howie when there is a lifetime of them. He was such an important person in our family and he was always there for us without question, judgement or complaining but just happy to help in anyway he could or spend time with us. Howie was the Mayor of the neighborhood knowing everyone and always giving a helping hand and generous to a fault! Jen, Nancy and your families hold on to the good memories and and we will keep in our thoughts and prayers.

I was looking for a picture with Howie since he was in so many moments of my life .. whether in daily events or my wedding or when I brought home my children for the first time but although I am sure I have them .. I couldn't find him in the pictures I had on hand. Then I realized that he is not in them because Howie was always behind the lens. 90% of the pictures I have were taken by Howie. You see Howie was an amazing neighbor. That sounds not all that important but an amazing neighbor creates a community and that is something extremely important. He was THE "go to" person on Nixon Avenue and beyond because he was incredibly generous and everyone trusted Howie completely. He was and always will be the heart of Nixon Avenue. Howie's friendship went beyond continents and oceans and so he touched so many lives. I have messages sent to me from my dad and cousins in Italy, not to mention friends.. all who loved Howie and feel this profound loss.
Having said all that, Howie (to me) was simply a part of my much loved family. Holidays together, life events together and the family I gained when I arrived in the U.S. I will always miss him but he will forever be part of my family and memories. When you are a part of peoples lives like Howie was, you are never forgotten. Our love is with Jennifer and Nancy, the sisters that became part of our life and their families. Captain Hill , always a true gentleman. I worked as a dispatcher for 23 years at The Sandy Hook Pilots with him . I will never forget him taking me to a car dealer to check out a car I was buying . He wanted to make sure everything was working and price was right . He always asked about my family and I to make sure we were ok . He would do anything for anyone if asked . Rest in peace Captain Hill you will be missed ❤️

Howie was and always be one of the most important people in our family. He was our "American dad", all our Christmas eve dinners with nancy and Jennifer, letting us put on shows in the living room, sleep overs and holidays and barbecues together. The memories are too many to list but my family have so much to be thankful for having howie in our lives. He will be missed and loved forever. Everytime I see a ship go by I'll always think of you howie.

We all loved Howie. And why not? For the many years I and my children and grandchildren knew him he was unfailingly cheerful, helpful and dear. To EVERYONE! Legions of friends, neighbors, associates, and admirers are in his debt. Always busy, always on his way to help someone. Unfailing in his reliability and concern. For us Ricciardi/Erikson/ Saraceno’s he was the guardian angel of my Mom. She was able to stay in her beloved house for many years because of Howie’s vigilance and unfailing care. We love you and will always remember you Howie.
