We were winter neighbors of Al. Our dogs would play with his dog Alex. He was always up for a conversation or watching the moon rise and looking at the stars over the canal from his chair. We will miss his smile and our chats with him. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Jim and Laurie Szumla

Al was a great one! If you visited Schaffer's Tavern--you probably knew Al! Some people are still looking for the birds chirping that got loose inside the bar! He had a great sense of humor and loved a good time! He was a dear friend and mentor to me and his trips to the Preakness were legendary! He was a fierce competitor on the golf course and deserved his recent induction into the Staten Island Hall of Fame! I will miss his wisdom and kindness, Al was a good and decent man and he was a joy to be around!
Godspeed my friend!
