Obituary of David G. Castell
David Castell, 78, passed away on March 23rd, 2024.He was predeceased by his wife Cathy, as well as sisters Dorothy and Lois. He is survived by his beloved big brother James Castellucci along with nieces Janet Lysek, Nancy Peters and Adrienne Gergich, and great-niece/nephews Caroline, Adam, Connor and Nicholas.
David had a passion for historic preservation and has been involved with the Staten Island Conference House Association for over 25 years, serving on the board of directors as well as former president of the Association Board of Directors. His interest in history was sparked in childhood when he found a buried native American arrowhead across the street from his home. In addition to native American history, he was an avid fan of all things related to the Civil War and became a self-taught expert in historic relics.
He served as CFO for New York Marine Insurance before retiring. He was very active in fundraising for Saint Sylvester’s parish and school where his wife Cathy worked as a beloved teacher for many years.
The visitation will be at Matthew Funeral home on Thursday March 28th from 6-9pm. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday March 29th at 9:30am, with interment to follow at Moravian Cemetery.
