Obituary of Mary Pfeiffer
Mary Pfeiffer passed away at her home on July 7th at 100 years of age. She was born on Manhattan's Lower East Side and was the eldest child of Albert and Johanna Jaccard. They moved to Staten Island while she was still a young child, and she attended and graduated from Port Richmond High school. It was there that she met her husband, Daniel Pfeiffer, and they married after a short courtship. Not long after they married, Daniel was drafted into World War II. As he was transferred between posts, Mary followed him by train. Daniel was seriously wounded and treated at Holloran Hospital, where Mary volunteered so she could see him. Upon discharge, they settled in the Westerleigh community.
Activities she enjoyed included bowling, singing with the Sweet Adeline's Chorus, belonging to St. Rita's Golden Age club, and the Todt Hill Friendship Club. Mary was a wonderful cook and known for her holiday dinners with large attendance. She is predeceased by her husband Daniel, her son Ronald. As well as her siblings Albert, Elanor, and Richard. She was the loving mother of Janet Davis, Grandmother to James and Shannon, and Great-Grandmother to Veronica and Magnus.
Visitation will be at Matthew Funeral Home on Thursday July 11th, from 2 pm - 6 pm. Funeral mass will take place on Friday July 12th, 10 am at St. Rita's church, where she was a lifelong parishioner, with internment to follow at Fairview Cemetery.
