Obituary of Samuel Daniel

Samuel (Thankachen) Daniel was born on June 24, 1938, to Kottarathil Poulouse Daniel and Thankamma Daniel in Muttom, Haripad. He was the eldest of 11 siblings. Samuel began his career as a teacher in Kerala's educational department and retired as an administrative officer in the Office of Education at the age of 55.

In 1967, he married Aleyamma (Maniyamma), and they had three children. Samuel was an active member of the Marthoma Church until he felt called by God to join the local Pentecostal church in Karippuzha. Alongside his secular job, he was involved in organizing youth groups, leading his local YMCA chapter as president, and personal evangelism. He also served as the Sunday school superintendent for many years in the Indian Pentecostal Church, Mavelikkara (West) District.

In 1997, Samuel immigrated to the U.S. with his family. He served as a deacon for the New York Pentecostal Assembly Staten Island for many years and became an active member of his church community. Known for his outgoing personality and great sense of humor, he easily connected with people of all ages and walks of life. Samuel was an avid and lifelong learner, carrying his love of reading and writing into all aspects of his spiritual and civic life. Most of all, he had a deep love of God and people, spending hours in prayer, reflection, and conversation with friends and family.

Samuel was deeply committed to his family and loved spending time with them. As the eldest sibling, he was a voice of comfort and wisdom for many in his life. During his final years, Samuel battled three bouts of cancer, though he was able to live a full and active life until his final weeks. Samuel's deep faith in God was a source of strength to him and his family, carrying him through his last days.

Samuel is survived by his wife, Aleyamma; his children, Mini and Thankachen, Reni and Jomon, and Riju and Sharon; his grandchildren, Timi and Jamie, Dan, Krista, Joel, Jonathan, Zachary, and Caleb; and his siblings, Aleyamma, Sosamma, George, Joseph, Annamma, Pastor Mathews, Lucy, Licy, and Susan. He is preceded by his sister Marykutty.

Visitation at the New Dorp Moravian Church, 2205 Richmond Road, Staten Island, NY 10306, on Friday, 8/2, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm, and Saturday, 8/3, from 8:45 am to 10:30 am. Interment will follow in Moravian Cemetery.
