I had the opportunity to coach Bob at Wagner College. He was a veteran member of our ice hockey team when I arrived in 1980. Despite the passage of time, I well remember his play as well as his contributions to Bill Horn’s effort to redefine the team. But what I best remember today was his sense of humor.
We were in Boston playing against Emerson College. They were very talented and one of their players made a blind pass between his skates to a teammate. As our goalie flopped on the puck, briefly halting the action, Bob looked down and said, ‘Quite the pass.’ It was the only funny thing we saw all night.
In time, Chief’s efforts paid off. The team improved, the program gained recognition on campus, and a strong base was laid for the subsequent players. While few appreciated those young men from 1980-1981, I remember them still.
I have been a teacher and a coach since 1970. Over the past 54 years, it has been my honor to work with thousands of young men and women in the classroom, on athletic fields, and in ice arenas across the tri-state area. Of the 88 teams, I have but one frames picture. It is the Wagner College squad.
Now at age 75, I hold the memories of all my former students and players close to my heart. Like my children and grandkids, each is special in their own way. But, at the end of the day, one remains the most significant.
Be well Robert. Tonight, I’ll drink a quick toast to you and your teammates.
‘Quite the pass.’ It still makes me laugh all these years later.

I join my ADPi sisters from the Wagner College classes of '81 and '82 in feeling such sadness when we learned the news of Bob's passing. We all remember Bob so fondly, (along with his side-kick Chris Delsante) through all the fun and antics of Theta Chi, the Seahawks Hockey Team, and the Hawk's Nest parties, but especially for his friendliness and very kind disposition. He had such a large presence on campus and on the ice, but treated everyone as if they were his dear friend. Our years at Wagner from '77-'82 may have been brief, but were truly great times. Our classmates truly treasure the bonds and enduring friendships we crafted while in school together, that have lasted a lifetime. Bob was truly one of the good ones that made this possible, and he will be missed but never forgotten. Godspeed my friend, and while you're up there, can you say some special prayers for the NY Rangers!

I knew Rob from the early 1980s at Wagner College, Theta Chi Fraternity. We went on a few road trips together. On the way back to Wagner college was usually a drag race anywhere we both stopped at a red light. My Chevy Nova was no match for Robs GTO !
If those years were any indication, I know Rob lived his life to the fullest !!
