Obituary of Peggy Gatto

Peggy Ann Gatto (née DeSalvo), a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on October 2, 2024, at the age of 78. She was born to Carmela (Millie) and Thomas Desalvo on May 3, 1946. Peggy lived a life filled with love, family, and joy.

Peggy married her childhood sweetheart, the love of her life, Anthony Gatto, on September 26, 1965. Together, they raised three sons and their family grew to include five grandchildren. Becoming a grandmother was the greatest joy of Peggy's life, and she cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren. Hosting Sunday dinner with Sunday sauce created everlasting memories for the Gatto family.

For over 35 years, Peggy dedicated her career to Staten Island University Hospital, retiring in 2016. Her commitment to her work was matched only by her devotion to her family and friends.

Peggy had a zest for life that was evident in everything she did. She loved to travel, making annual trips to Aruba with her closest friends and many vacations with her family. Dining out was another one of her favorite pastimes. An avid fan of game shows, Peggy could often be found enjoying her favorite TV programs. She was also the number one supporter of her husband Anthony's musical group, "The Concepts," never missing a concert and earning the title of their biggest groupie.

For over 40 years, Peggy was an active member of a women's club, where she strengthened some of her fondest friendships. These relationships, along with the incredibly close bonds she shared with her sons and daughters-in-law, were a testament to her warm and loving nature.

Peggy Ann Gatto will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love, laughter, and devotion to family will continue to inspire those whose lives she touched. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Anthony Gatto, both her parents, Carmela and Thomas Desalvo, and her only sister, Janice Yatwa. Peggy is survived by her loving sons, Thomas, Anthony (as well as his wife Kristin), and Terry (as well as his wife Melanie) and her five beloved grandchildren, Gregory, Kaitlynn, Matthew, Nicholas, and Anthony along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews who will forever cherish her memory.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Matthew’s Funeral Home on Friday, October 4th, 2024 with visitation from 4:30 to 8:30 PM. The funeral Mass will be held at Holy Rosary Church on Saturday, October 5th, 2024 at 10:30 AM.
