Obituary of James N. Glover, Jr.

James N. Glover Jr. (Buddy)

March 1, 1940 – October 26, 2024

Beloved son of the late James Nelson Glover and Ann (Faber) Glover, predeceased by his siblings Barbara and William.

Survived by his loving fiancé Mary Joan Chini, his beloved children and their families: Jim Glover (Selena), Eileen Tuite (Rob); step-sons Michael Chini and Douglas Chini; seven grandchildren: Gianna, Michael, Jenna, Julianna, Robert, Ryan and Evan; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Buddy was a native Staten Islander who grew up in Huguenot and was a graduate of Tottenville High School. After earning a degree in Electrical Engineering from Staten Island Community College, he proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was posted overseas as a member of the Seventh Army, serving as a Specialist 4th Class technician at a base just outside Paris, France. He began his career at General Cable and the Bendix Corporation, where he worked on missile guidance systems. Buddy later worked for the City of New York as Machinists' Foreman of the Staten Island Ferry for over twenty years before retiring.

Buddy was a superb engineer and craftsman; he could repair or create anything. One of his greatest passions was airplanes. He built and flew a dozen radio-controlled replica planes and was a member of the Staten Island RC Modelers. He also enjoyed sports and skiing the most challenging slopes in the United States, Canada and Austria. He also loved to travel, and he and Mary Joan explored nearly a dozen countries together.

His greatest joy in life was spending time with his grandchildren; nurturing and spoiling them. Known to them as "Grandpa," he loved playing games and supporting them at their dance and sporting events. He helped them with school projects and encouraged them in all their endeavors.

Buddy had a warm smile and was loved by all who knew him. He was a stoic, selfless man who would do anything for you and never ask for anything in return. He is fondly remembered and missed tremendously.

Visitation at the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Wednesday, 10/30, from 1:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm, with a service scheduled for 8:00 pm, in the funeral home. An inurnment of the cremated remains is scheduled for Wednesday, 11/6, at 11:00 am, at Ocean View Cemetery.
