Obituary of Janet E. Ryan

Janet E. Ryan, 88, passed away on December 4, 2024, at her winter home in Fort Myers, Florida. Janet was born in West Brighton and was very proud to be a true native Staten Islander, as her father’s family had lived on Staten Island for many generations. She was a Curtis High School graduate. Janet was predeceased by parents, Harold E. Bush and Mamie A. Bush (nee Saxton), her husband, James J. Ryan, and brother, Kenneth Bush. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Ryan, “son-in-law”, Richard Maltese, brother, Robert Bush, sister-in-law, Helen Bush, and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, all of whom she cherished.

Janet and her husband had traveled to many beautiful places in the U.S. and Canada. They met many wonderful people on tours they had taken and found new friends. Janet loved to garden and always had beautiful flowers growing at her homes.

Janet held the position of assistant vice president and officer of Richmond County Savings Bank. She worked in the lending area for many, many years and retired from the bank.

When Janet and her husband retired, they decided to become snowbirds in Fort Myers, Florida, where they also made lasting friendships. They played golf for a time and Janet was always ready to play cards or Mahjong.

The visitation will be at Matthew’s Funeral Home on Friday, December 13th from 3-7 p.m.  Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, December 14th at 10 a.m. with internment to follow at Moravian  Cemetery where she will be buried with her husband.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or the Tunnel To Towers Foundation.
