Obituary of Lena M. Papalia
Lena Papalia, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. She was the cherished wife of the late John Papalia and a source of light and strength for her loved ones.
Lena is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Snoor and Elaine Gurrieri, married to John Gurrieri. She was the proud grandmother of Sarah Braithwaite, married to Tristan Braithwaite, John Gurrieri, and Elizabeth Snoor, and the adoring great-grandmother of Richard Paul II and Serrena Braithwaite.
A dedicated teacher, Lena inspired generations of students with her passion for learning. She was an expert in needlepoint, creating intricate works of art that will remain treasured family heirlooms. Lena also had a deep love for her Sicilian heritage and was a devoted supporter of the Garibaldi-Meucci Museum, where she shared her pride and knowledge of Italian-American culture with the community.
A plant enthusiast and African Violet Society member who found joy in nurturing life, Lena's heart and home were always filled with warmth and beauty. Above all, she was deeply beloved by her family, who will forever cherish her wisdom, kindness, and unwavering love.
Her legacy will live on through the lives she touched and the family she cherished. She will be greatly missed.
Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Friday, 12/13, departing at 9:15 AM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church at 10:00 AM, with interment to follow in Moravian Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, 12/12, from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
