Obituary of Marie Pizzo

Marie Pizzo passed away peacefully on December 12th.  She was the loving daughter of Sam and Frances Paolucci. She was born and raised on the lower east side of Manhattan. Marie and her sister Joyce shared a bedroom in their grandparents’ tenement apartment.

During her years as a child and teenager, Marie worked at her family's Italian restaurant Paolucci‘s in Little Italy where she encountered and spent time with countless celebrities, politicians and neighborhood families.

Marie was a graduate of Cathedral High School. Later, after graduating high school, she would go on to marry Tony Pizzo whom she shared over 58 years of marriage. Her and Tony would move to Staten Island in 1969 and begin to raise their family.

She was a loving mother to Joseph, Samantha, and Anthony. A loyal friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Marie was a caring aunt to her nieces and nephews. She was the best big sister to Joyce. Marie was an amazing sister-in-law and cousin. Most importantly she loved the pride and joys of her life, her six grandchildren Jake, Nicholas, Frankie, Justin, Gianna, and AJ.

Marie had many great times and endless stories about her life and experiences from when she worked at the family restaurant, Helena Rubinstein, and Saint Vincent's Hospital where she was an administrative assistant. She loved hanging out at the Ravenhall swim club, the Copacabana, rooting for the New York Yankees, playing scrabble, watching jeopardy, visiting the Jersey Shore, listening to Frank Sinatra and cooking world class meals for anyone who came to visit especially during the holidays.

In recent years, Marie would spend most of her days at the Four Seasons Community in Lakewood, New Jersey where she and Tony began a new life of friends and made new memories. Marie was a dedicated parishioner of the Our Lady of Good Counsel Church and a member of the OLGC school library where she enjoyed reading to students.

There are just not enough words to share or describe how amazing Marie was and her unexpected passing will forever leave a void in the hearts of her loved ones.

In lieu of flowers a donation can be made in Marie's honor to the Saint Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Funeral departing the Matthew Funeral Home 2805 Victory Blvd, Staten Island on Friday 12/20 at 9:15am.  A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Good Counsel at 10AM.  Interment to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery.  Family and Friends may visit the Matthew Funeral Home on Thursday 12/19 from 2-4 and 6-9PM.
